I’m offering this one-of-a-kind taxidermy art piece: a whimsical vintage library scene lovingly created inside an old birdcage. This miniature world blends elements of taxidermy, storytelling, and vintage charm—perfect for lovers of the strange, beautiful, and unusual.


About the Mouse:

The mouse featured in this piece was originally a feeder mouse, humanely sourced, and mounted in Spring 2024. It is securely glued into a cozy armchair and wrapped in a soft, yellow-toned wool blanket. Its little tail and feet peek out from underneath, adding a touch of quiet realism and charm.

 

About the Library:

This miniature library has a vintage, shabby-chic aesthetic and is full of curious little details:

 

  • The books were collected from a flea market in Germany. Many have worn covers, handwritten cursive titles like "Goethe" or "Deutsche Geschichte" (German History), and tiny, hand-drawn crosses. Their weathered look adds to the magical, well-loved atmosphere.

  • The furniture is mostly vintage. 1/12 scale dollhouse pieces, sourced from thrift stores and online miniature shops. The star is a small blue armchair, upholstered in vintage fabric that shows gentle fading from time and use.

  • A tiny table lamp works with a battery and includes an on/off switch—it adds a cozy, inviting glow.

  • There are handmade details such as scrolls and a butterfly poster, created by me using a page from an antique encyclopedia book .

  • Several glass bottles are filled with treasures like sea shells, snail shells, wildflowers, and even preserved ladybugs.

  • A miniature cat skull adds a touch of curiosity and edge to the scene.

 

About the Birdcage:

The birdcage itself is a vintage find and shows signs of age such as cracks and fading wood. I removed the front metal bars to allow for a clearer view into the library. Its timeworn condition perfectly complements the nostalgic and whimsical aesthetic of the piece.
